The current, fifth, generation of the Honda Odyssey began in 2018 and quickly won the Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the second time. The fifth-generation added the Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist technologies, like forward collision warning and lane departure warning.
Inside the Odyssey, you'll find quality craftsmanship and ingenuity, with features like Magic Slide second-row seats. Cabin Watch and Cabin Talk systems allow you to view your rear passengers on your infotainment screen and talk to them through the Odyssey's sound system, even when your passengers wear headphones. The rear entertainment center offers HDMI inputs, Bluetooth streaming technology, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support, adding yet another layer of connectivity.
A powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine linked to the industry's first 10-speed automatic transmission moves the fifth-generation Odyssey. This powertrain puts out an impressive 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque.
Even the fourth generation Odyssey introduced in 2011 comes nicely equipped. In 2014, Honda refreshed the Odyssey lineup, adding clever blind-spot camera views, smartphone integration, Bluetooth technology, and a larger split-screen rear entertainment center. You can find options like voice-command navigation, a built-in vacuum cleaner, and Honda Sensing systems as well.
This compact SUV has been a popular crossover since its introduction in 1997. The fifth-generation started in 2017 with a refresh in 2019 that included a hybrid powertrain. Two engines power the non-hybrid CR-V. A 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine was the standard, while a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder was used in the upper trims. The engines produce 184 and 190 horsepower, respectively. In 2020, Honda made the 1.5-liter turbo standard equipment.Â
Honda Sensing comes with every fifth-generation CR-V, which added Adaptive Cruise Control and a Collision Mitigation Braking System to the suite.Â
The fourth generation began in 2012 with a 2.4-liter I-VTEC inline four-cylinder engine with 185 horsepower and the first real-time all-wheel-drive system. After a 2015 refresh, the CR-V added a direct-injection fuel system, a continuously variable transmission, and a sport-tuned suspension. The CR-V delivers agility and performance under various conditions, making it an excellent vehicle for navigating crowded city streets or the occasional camping trip in the hills.
It's hard to believe the Accord has been around since 1976, albeit as a hatchback in its first generation. The Accord now enjoys its tenth generation of production, leaving a long line of awards in its wake. Its most recent award in 2021 marked it as Kelley Blue Book's Best Midsize Car. The 2018 Accord won the North American Car of the Year Award, and Car and Driver named it a 10 Best in recognition for 31 of the last 35 years.
The 2017 and newer Accord models come standard with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual transmission that puts out 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque. An optional 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder replaced the V-6 engine from the previous generation. This 2.0-liter puts out 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Interior amenities include leather seats with heating for both front and rear outboard passengers, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an infotainment touch-screen display that syncs your smart devices for hands-free operation. Front seats feature ventilation on the upper trims. Honda Sensing adds safety to your drive and introduces the new traffic sign recognition system to the suite.
The ninth generation began in 2012 and featured the V-6 engine on the upper trims and the luxury appointments of leather seats and premium appliques. A coupe version was introduced with the ninth generation that offered a sport-inspired exterior and an interior to match.
Another long-running model from Honda, the Civic, was first introduced in 1972. In its eleventh generation in 2021, the Civic enjoys widespread popularity in the compact sedan and hatchback communities.Â
The tenth generation started in 2015 developed on Honda's newest global platform. The Civic models range from a four-door sedan, two-door coupe, five-door hatchback, and a fastback version. Modern design cues like wing-shaped chrome flowing across the headlights and a fastback with a C-pillar that flowed to the tailgate gave the Civic a distinct style in its segment.
Honda touted the Civic Si Coupe in 2015 was able to go from 0-60 mph in seven seconds. Car and Driver reported in its testing that the Si accomplished the feat in 6.3-seconds, adding to the legend of this sporty vehicle. The availability of a six-speed manual transmission offered a more spirited driving experience.
Modern technology greeted the tenth generation with touch-screen infotainment systems, Bluetooth, and smartphone integration. Interior amenities vary by model, but you can find leather appointments on many Civic models in this generation.Â
