Nissan releases feature lists for Murano, Armada

Two Nissan SUV models may become more affordable for new car buyers, but those looking at used cars could still find a better deal.

The full-size Armada will be available next year with a camera-assisted rear view system, Bluetooth mobile phone system and other comforts for about $43,000. A Platinum edition that adds heated seats and steering wheels along with an upgraded entertainment package will retail for around $50,000.

Used versions may be more readily available and at a lower price point, as Armadas have been available from Nissan since the 2004 model year. All models have come with a 5.6 liter V8 mated to a five-speed automatic transmission that drives a chassis similar to Nissan’s trucks.

Edmunds said the 2008 Armada had a powerful engine that helped with towing and plenty of room in every row.

Nissan also announced that prices on the Murano, its mid-sized SUV offering, have dropped in turn with recent feature additions as well.

The Murano, first introduced in 2003, offers a continuously variable transmission in all model years designed to improve efficiency. An optional all-wheel drive system does not reduce the fuel economy, according to EPA estimates.

Nissan to introduce zero-emission vehicles in 2010

In celebration of Earth Day, the Renault-Nissan Alliance announced a new partnership that will reportedly bring a zero-emission vehicle to the U.S. next year and be mass marketed global two years after.

The partnership will be between Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Nissan in Tennessee, which expands an existing deal between the car manufacturer and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

“Nissan in Tennessee is working with partners that share in the belief that the introduction and expansion of electric vehicles is one of the best solutions to reducing CO2 emissions,” said Dominique Thormann, senior vice president, administration and finance, of Nissan North America. “It’s only through collaborative efforts such as this that we can make zero-emission mobility a reality.”

People who are in the market for a used car may want to look at some at the 2007 Nissan Altima hybrid as a way to cut down on fuel costs and be environmentally friendly.

According to Edmunds.com, the Altima hybrid combined the features fans of the model have grown to love (good handling, ample room) with being fuel efficient.

Man finds 35 pounds of pot in gas tank

A used car owner who couldn’t figure out why his fuel gauge never showed more than half full got a big surprise this week when a mechanic found 35 pounds of pot in the vehicle’s gas tank.

Utah police say about $35,000 worth of marijuana was found in the tank of a 2009 Nissan Armada after its owner brought the vehicle in to see what was wrong with the gas gauge.

Although the drugs were tightly wrapped in plastic, gasoline had leaked into the packaging leading investigators to believe it had been in the car for months. The car had already had several owners and was used as a rental vehicle for a period.

Police say the current owner is not a suspect but think it will be difficult to track down were the drugs came from because it has changed hands so many times.

Officials say the car should be fine and in complete working order once the drugs are removed.

According to Edmunds.com, the Nissan has produced the Armada since 2004 and says this year’s model “hauls like a gorilla on steroids.”

Frozen car gets fined

Apparently the city of Cleveland, Ohio takes its parking situations very seriously as a man whose car was frozen to the street following a broken water pipe received a ticket and had his car hauled off to an impound lot.

When Gary Luke walked out to his Nissan Altima yesterday morning he found it covered in three inches of ice and more than a foot of ice burying his tires.

It appears that a water main had burst overnight, covering the car with freezing water and causing passing motorists to splash the car with the river that was now running down his street.

“I know it’s Cleveland in the wintertime, but I never expected this,” Luke told the Plain Dealer.

Luke told the paper that AAA said he would have to wait until the weather warmed up to get his car out of the predicament, but that didn’t stop police from trying – and succeeding.

According to the news provider, police were clearing cars parked on Luke’s street Thursday night and had a tow truck work to remove the Altima from its icy encasement. For his trouble, Luke received a $50 ticket and must now pay to have his car removed from impound.
