KBB Finds Newer Used Cars Not Much Cheaper Than Brand New Models

Across the board, the average cost of used cars has ebbed in recent months, but compact, fuel efficient models are still in high demand. A recent report by Kelley Blue Book found that there is a negligible different between buying a new compact car and a vehicle that is about 1 year old. The average price difference between a new 2013 model and a used vehicle from 2012 is about $2,500, which works out to around $30 per month on a five-year loan.

“Used compacts have been in high demand with fuel prices nearly $3.42 per gallon nationally, and values have held strong as a result,” said Alec Gutierrez, senior market analyst of automotive insights for KBB. “A consumer looking to save at least $100 or more per month on a used car would need to consider a model-year 2009 or older, which likely would have 50,000 miles or more on the odometer.”

That’s not to say that an older used model is not worth the money, as many vehicles made before 2009 are still reliable, fuel efficient and fun to drive. Choosing an older compact car over a newer used model or a brand new vehicle may mean the ride is a bit more worn in, but the purchase price could be hundred or even thousands of dollars lower than the other options, and drivers can still save at the pump in an older car.

Car shoppers who would like to get behind the wheel of a previously owned compact sedan can head to New Jersey Auto Auction. The dealer has a wide selection of makes and models to choose from, and every car on the lot is CARFAX certified, so drivers will know exactly what they’re getting.

2013 Range Rover Base Trim Already Sold Out

Land Rover is starting out 2013 with impressive sales, and the vehicles aren’t even built yet. AutoBlog reports the new 2013 Range Rover has already been sold out for at least six months to a year across the globe.

Why is the Range Rover so popular?
This popular British SUV has been a top performer for many years, so this news may not come as too big a surprise, especially given that the newest model received a number of innovative upgrades. It is lighter and more fuel-efficient, which contributes to a better overall driving experience than could be found in previous models, according to LeftLane News.

High demand will boost Land Rover’s sales
Due to the backorder of the base level trim of the Range Rover, Land Rover is actually only going to offer the higher HSE trim in North America. The automaker believes that even though there is a wait list, annual sales will top the 44,664-unit total from 2012, New York Daily News reports.

Used car shoppers should expect higher prices
Drivers who are planning to purchase used Range Rovers in the future should keep in mind the re-sale price of these models is likely to be higher than it would be for other model years. Not only is the vehicle already highly sought after, but the higher trim level comes with more features and perks that boost the overall value.

Those looking to get behind the wheel of a luxurious used car or SUV soon can head to New Jersey State Auto Auction. The dealer carries a wide selection of makes and models, and every vehicle on the lot is CARFAX certified, so car shoppers will know they’re driving away in a reliable ride.

Gas Prices Climbing Higher than Recent Months

The cost of a gallon of gas fluctuates on a daily basis, and while the past few months have seen lower prices, the numbers are beginning to climb once more. The Detroit Free Press reports that the average cost of a gallon recently edged past $3.60, marking the highest price since October 22. Costs have been on the rise since mid-December when they hit a low of about $3.25.

The Energy Information Administration tracks gas prices across the U.S. on a weekly basis, and the Central Atlantic region saw prices climb nearly 7 cents in one week. The current average in this area, which includes New York and New Jersey, is a bit higher than the country’s average at $3.73 per gallon, roughly 10 cents higher than the cost during this week in 2012.

While these costs may be out of your control, you can take action to try and reduce the amount you’re spending at the pump. Getting regular maintenance and keeping up with any necessary repairs will help your vehicle run more efficiently, which will improve its fuel economy. You should also check the tire pressure regularly, as too little air in the tires will require your car to work harder and use more gas than if it was running at optimal conditions.

If you’re thinking about trading in your current vehicle, you can look into fuel efficient models to replace the car your have now. There are plenty of fuel efficient used cars, including hybrid options like the Toyota Prius. New Jersey State Auto Auction has a variety of makes and models to choose from, making it easy to find the ride you want. Plus, every model is CARFAX certified, so you know you’ll get behind the wheel of a reliable ride when you buy from NJ Auto Auction.

Honda’s Social Media Efforts Recognized at Chicago Auto Show

Honda was recently given the first-ever “Driver Engagement” award at the Chicago Auto Show. Since social media has become an integral part of marketing for most major car companies, the Chicago Automobile Trade Association decided to introduce a new award at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show to showcase the effectiveness of marketing through sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

The Japanese automaker’s campaign, Honda Loves You Back, beat out runners-up Nissan and Dodge to take the prize.

“We are thrilled and proud that the latest edition in our Honda Loves You Back social media campaign has been recognized. We’re so grateful for the love our customers express for their Honda vehicles,” said Alicia Jones, manager of social media at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “I think it’s the simplicity of the campaign’s intent – to say thank you and share the conversation with them – that makes it work.”‘

The Honda campaign showcased a music video from the up-and-coming band Monsters Calling Home, as the video was filmed inside one of the band member’s Honda. The car company got the band booked on” Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in a symbolic gesture of giving back to fans of the brand.

Social media campaigns like this help drivers connect more personally with a brand, as they can interact with a company by uploading their stories and photos. Toyota, for instance, ran a campaign for fans to upload photos to Instagram. The winning picture was featured during Toyota’s Super Bowl commercial.

Whether drivers have been won over by a marketing campaign or they just prefer a certain brand, they’ll be able to find a variety of used models at New Jersey State Auto Auction. Every vehicle on the lot comes with a full CARFAX vehicle history report, so drivers know exactly what they’re buying.

Kia Unveils Superman Car for Charity

Kia recently unveiled its Superman-inspired Optima Hybrid, the sixth installment of its eight-car charitable campaign, “We Can Be Heroes,” at the Chicago International Auto Show. The South Korean automaker is customizing eight different vehicles to represent the superheroes who make up DC Entertainment’s Justice League – Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Cyborg. With the help of DC Entertainment co-publisher Jim Lee, Kia designers created a vehicle that captures the unbeatable invincibility and upstanding nature of the FDR-era Superman.

“As the most recognized superhero in the world, Superman is a symbol of strength and integrity, making him the perfect character to join forces with Kia’s first-ever hybrid to create a customized ride powered by a robust and efficient powertrain,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of marketing and communications for Kia Motors America. “Each of our Justice League-inspired vehicles are remarkable collaborations between the automotive and comic book worlds, and all for a worthy cause.”

The Superman-themed car has a few fancy features, including a button that raises and lowers the suspension, customized fenders, red headlights and other red accents, and of course, the iconic “S” logo the hero wears on his costume. This and the other super-cars are being used to promote DC Entertainment’s efforts to raise funds to help people in the Horn of Africa who are fighting drought and famine.

While this ride is one-of-a-kind, drivers looking for used cars can head over to New Jersey Auto Auction, which carries a wide selection of makes and models, including a variety of Kia cars as well as hybrid options like the Toyota Prius. Every model on the lot is CARFAX certified, so drivers can get behind the wheel of a reliable vehicle whether they want to save the world by going green or opt for something a bit more traditional.

Consider Overall Cost of Owning the Car You Want

When you’re looking to purchase a used car, there are many different aspects to consider, including the initial price as well as a vehicle’s safety and reliability, but perhaps one of the most important elements of having a car is the long-term cost of ownership. After you shell out the dough to buy your car, you won’t stop spending money on your purchase. Everything from fueling up to getting regular maintenance and insuring your vehicle will add up over time, and some models cost more to own than others. For instance, a large SUV like a GMC Terrain will likely use more gas and cost more to fill at the pump than a smaller model like a Honda Civic.

You can research the cost of ownership of certain vehicles online or by asking people who own them about the expenses. In addition to fuel consumption, you will want to find out how frequently a particular model needs to be serviced, whether it is known for needing repairs or part replacements regularly, and how expensive it is to insure. A sporty Porsche 911 is going to have a higher insurance premium than an entry-level sedan like a Ford Fiesta. Some brands and models are known to break down more frequently than others that have a reputation for being reliable.

You should factor long-term costs into your decision before purchasing a used car, especially if a vehicle is priced well below the average selling price for that model. This could indicate it is in less-than-ideal condition, so the money you save up front would be made up by the repairs you’ll need to pay for down the line.

When you have done your research, you can head to New Jersey State Auto Auction to find the vehicle you desire. The dealer carries a wide selection of makes and models, and every car on the lot is CARFAX certified, so you know you’ll be getting behind the wheel of a reliable ride.

Tips for Your Test Drive

When shopping for a used car, there are many steps drivers should take to ensure they get the right model. After deciding which features are most important and researching safety data, cost of ownership and other information, you may have narrowed down your selection to a handful of vehicles. At this point, the next step is to visit a dealership and test drive each model. This lets you get a feel for a car, including everything from how it handles on the road to your level of comfort when you’re in the vehicle. There are many aspects of a test drive to take into account that can help you make an informed decision.

Take a look, inside and out
Before you get in the car, take a look at the exterior and interior, making note of any damages, dents or issues like a door handle that sticks. Check out the trunk, pop the hood and make sure everything is in order.

Push all the buttons
When you get into the car, test out the various controls. This includes everything from the turn signals and the horn to the radio and heating system. You will also want to try out the seat adjusters and seat belt to make sure they’re working properly.

Drive all over the place
Once you drive off the lot, don’t simply take the car around the block and call it a day. In order to get a feel for how the vehicle handles, you will want to see how it performs in various conditions. Hop on the highway, drive through town and even test it out on a dirt road if you travel on unpaved paths regularly.

You are going to be driving the vehicle you choose for at least a few years, so making sure you are comfortable in it is crucial. You can find a variety of makes and models to test drive at New Jersey State Auto Auction. Since every model on the lot is CARFAX certified, you’ll know you’re getting behind the wheel of a reliable ride.

MINI Makes Major Mistake, Apologizes with Chocolate Roses

MINI, known for its quirky designs and unique vehicles, like the Classic Mini Cooper, recently had a bit of bad PR. The British automaker’s American fans were inundated with an onslaught of automated email messages when a system glitch sent out hundreds of copies of the same email to each user on the mailing list, AutoBlog reports.

While this sort of thing generally does not happen, the standard procedure is to issue an apologetic email or letter explaining the error and promising it won’t happen again. However, MINI officials decided to approach the issue in a more unique way. The company sent care packages to each affected customer. Along with a letter of apology, each individual also received chocolate roses, a roll of duct tape and a can of Spam. In the letter, MINI stated that, “Nothing says, ‘I’m sorry,’ like flowers and chocolate, so we’ve combined the two and enclosed a chocolate rose,” according to MotorTorque.com.

The duct tape was a symbolic gesture to “fix things up,” while the can of Spam, a clever visual pun on their email error, was actually a soft, squeezable stress-reliever.

Many MINI fans have found this mailing to be fun and endearing as well as reminiscent of the brand’s overarching appeal. However, not everyone agrees. A number of consumers who responded to AutoBlog’s coverage of the story felt that the company’s time, efforts and money cold have been better spent improving the lineup and researching new technologies for future models.

Drivers who want to get closer to the brand may be able to find a used MINI Cooper convertible or hardtop at New Jersey State Auto Auction. Every vehicle on the lot is CARFAX certified, so drivers won’t have to worry when they get behind the wheel of a used car.

Super Bowl XLVII Commercials Showcase Cars and More

In just a few days, the Baltimore Ravens will go head to head with the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans for Super Bowl XLVII, and whether you’re rooting for the birds or sporting red and gold, there’s one thing everyone is looking forward to – the commercials. This is prime time for advertisements, as last year about 166.8 million viewers tuned in to the game, which is why ads cost nearly $4 million for just 30 seconds of air time. This cost may be worth it, as a recent Nielsen survey found 91 percent of viewers are just as excited for the commercials as they are for the game, according to USA Today.

Super Bowl commercials run the gamut from soda and beer to department stores and fashion lines, but the major player is almost always the auto industry. This year is no different, as Audi, Toyota, Volkswagen and many other brands are gearing up to air commercials debuting new cars. These ads go above and beyond the traditional car commercials, using unique angles to catch viewers’ attention.

Hyundai, for instance, showcases a kid gathering a team of his friends – including one bear-wresting youngster – to take on a neighborhood bully. His mom drives him around to wrangle his friends in a Hyundai Santa Fe. The whole ad strategy includes an interactive social media project called “Find Your 7” that allows fans to assemble their dream team in a seven-passenger virtual Santa Fe.

While most of the ads will showcase new cars, they can still help vehicle shoppers get an idea of what they might want in a used car. After the Super Bowl, drivers can find a variety of makes and models at New Jersey State Auto Auction. Plus, every model on the lot is CARFAX certified, letting all drivers feel like MVPs when they get behind the wheel of their cars.

Kelley Blue Book Lists the Best Used Cars Under $8,000

You need a new set of wheels, but buying brand new is pricey. However, you want a used car that is dependable so you won’t be in the same position later on down the road. Nerad , executive editorial director for Kelley Blue Book ‘s KBB.com. “Then we went through the list and handpicked the 10 standouts with the most appealing mixes of reliability and desirability. The vehicles on our short list offer incredible value for today’s budget-conscious car shopper.”
