Reigning AL MVP Pulls Up in $200K Mercedes

Last year Detroit Tigers ace Justin Verlander became the first starting pitcher to claim both the AL Cy Young and MVP awards in 25 years, and it looks like he's rewarded himself for his impressive accomplishment. The 29-year-old right-hander rolled up to Tigers spring training in a Mercedes AMG SLS, The Detroit News reports.

Though Verlander can fire a fastball at upwards of 100 mph, his velocity pales in comparison to his new ride. The manufacturer says the car has a top speed of 197 mph and can go from 0 to 60 in just 3.8 seconds. The AMG SLS certainly does not come cheap, however.

"North of $200,000," Tigers fan Mark Painter told the newspaper. "I had an AMG years ago, but nothing like this. There aren't many like this."

Verlander is no stranger to high-performance vehicles. He showed up last year in a bright red Ferrari that seemingly foretold his legendary season where he notched 24 wins while maintaining a 2.40 ERA and striking out 250 batters.

Verlander's car was a bit different than what Philadelphia Phillies starter Roy Halladay showed up in. Halladay, a two-time Cy Young winner himself, made his spring debut by pulling up in a black hot-rod, CarBuzz reports.

While you may not have the resources to show up to work with a high-performance Mercedes or a classic hot-rod, that does not mean your ride doesn't deserve just as much attention. New Jersey State Auto Auction's Total Car Care center provides the perfect place for all your maintainence needs – from upkeep to repairs.

Lexus Teams Up With SI Swimsuit Model to Launch New Car

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue hit news stands earlier this week, and one automaker in particular is using its appeal to its advantage. Lexus teamed up with SI and model Tori Praver to help gives its brand an edgier, sexier feel, according to USA Today.

The program, dubbed the TORI 500 campaign, makes clever use of their stunning spokesperson. Lexus managed to create a unique race track designed in the shape of Praver herself. To create the track, Lexus enlisted the help of photographer Bjorn Ioss, who shot Praver from above to give the track its shape. The life-size course was even used by two professional drivers behind the wheel of what else but a brand new Lexus GS Sport.

The model-inspired track is not the only thing Lexus is doing in partnership with the SI Swimsuit issues. The manufacturer also launched an iPhone app called "Supermodeled" that lets you store photos of Praver in your phone and super-impose them on your own shots. Lexus also has a four-page spread in the magazine and will be at SI events in New York and Las Vegas promoting the issue – and the GS Sport.

"What better way to help introduce the all-new GS – than with a bold new campaign featuring a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model?" said Brian Smith, Lexus VP of marketing, according to the publication. "With the new GS, there's no going back for Lexus. Instead of just looking at the pictures, consumers can share in the fun through our many campaign components, including having Tori appear in their own photos."

While you may never get to go home with a model like Praver, New Jersey State Auto Auction has plenty of other models that are right up your alley. Whether it be a used Ford Mustang or a Chevy Tahoe, there are a wide variety of choices at affordable prices.

Miley Cyrus Pays Cash for New Mercedes

Although Miley Cyrus has not been in the public eye much since leaving Hannah Montana (minus some inappropriate photos that hit the internet), the girl still comes out of hiding once and a while to do a little shopping. Proving Hannah Montana provided her with a decent paycheck, Cyrus recently went to purchase a luxury car. As a gift to herself, Cyrus, 19, purchased a $127,000 Mercedes-Benz convertible, according to the New York Daily News.

The actress and singer paid in cash – because she can – for a white 2012 Mercedes-Benz SL550. Perhaps this was a way to draw different press. The news provider reports earlier that same week, Cyrus was photographed at her boyfriend's birthday party posing provocatively with a phallic cake.

TMZ reports that once the entertainer decided to purchase the vehicle, she wasted no time enjoying her new ride. The actress chose to drive the new Mercedes home that same day, but instead of turning in her used car, Cyrus had her bodyguard follow her back to her house in her old vehicle.

Maybe she was treating herself to a little get well present, as she tweeted earlier in the week that she injured herself while doing gymnastics.

"Cracked my tail bone doing a front flip … on to the couch. That's like when I tripped over a pillow and broke my arm," the singer tweeted, according to the news provider.

No one seems surprised that Cyrus decided to make such a lavish purchase, as the girl has always had a penchant for luxury vehicles. According to People Magazine, at age 16 Cyrus received a Porsche Cayenne for Christmas from her parents. Talk about a nice first car.

Driver-In-Chief: Obama Checks Out Cars at Washington Auto Show

The Washington Auto Show descended upon the nation's capital recently and it welcomed a well-known visitor. President Barack Obama stopped by the event on Tuesday to take a look at the flock of cars powered by alternative fuel and even sat behind the wheel of several vehicles, The Washington Post reports.

The appearance was unusual in that Obama's presence was relatively subdued. Instead of taking questions, giving a speech or talking with voters, he simply examined the cars that were on display. It's not surprising that Obama wanted to investigate the eco-friendly cars, given that going green has been a fairly significant part of his platform. Among the cars he looked at was the electric Chevy Volt, which has created substantial buzz in the auto industry.

"He was mainly interested in what are my greatest challenges in designing these vehicles," General Motors president of global design Ed Welburn told the newspaper. "I always want to raise the level of execution and design something that’s profitable."

The Volt may have been the most high-profile car that got Obama's attention but it certainly was not the only one. According to USA Today, he stepped behind the wheel of seven cars including hotly-anticipated fuel efficient rides such as the Ford C-Max Energi plug-in electric and the Chevrolet Malibu Eco. However, he also took time to check out a few classics including a Corvette and the Dodge Ram.

You don't have to the Commander-in-Chief to find a good deal on a used car at New Jersey State Auto Auction. With a wide variety of makes and models at affordable prices, there is something for everyone.

What’s The Deal With This Acura Super Bowl Ad?

It's no secret that Jerry Seinfeld loves cars. In fact, he may be second only to talk show host Jay Leno in terms of celebrity auto enthusiasts. So it likely comes as no surprise that Seinfeld is appearing in a Super Bowl ad, but what is a bit of a shock is the brand he is appearing for. The stand-up legend is featured in the recently-released ad for Acura, a stark change given his well-known affinity for Porsche products.

The 90-second spot places Jerry in an Acura dealer in line to get the much-anticipated NSX. He wants to be the first to have the sleek concept car, but unfortunately finds himself in the number two spot behind another lucky, and stubborn, shopper. Not to be denied, Seinfeld pulls out all the stops to try to bribe the car away from his rival. He seems to finally have it until he is thwarted at the last second by a surprise guest.

It's understandable that Seinfeld would want to be the first behind the wheel of the NSX. The impressive ride made it's debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, and according to Motor Trend, it was quite a sight to behold.

The NSX has not been in the North American market since 2005, but it is back and better than ever. The V-6 engine is augmented with three electric motors which give drivers the ability to power each wheel individually. Despite the impressive features, the car is still three years away from an official release.

Seinfeld is not the only big name celebrity to already throw his hat in the Super Bowl ad ring. Earlier this week, Honda released its Ferris Bueller spoof featuring Ferris himself – Matthew Broderick.

Barack Obama’s Former Car up For Sale

It's not every day you can say you've driven the same car as the Commander in Chief, but for one person that just might be the case. A car that belonged to President Barack Obama is up for sale on eBay and its owner has slapped quite a hefty price tag on it – $1 million.

The car is a 2005 Chrylser 300C that Obama drove from 2004 through the summer of 2007 while he was a junior senator from Illinois. During that time he put just 19,000 miles on its Hemi-powered engine. Despite its age and the fact that it hadn't been used much, Obama still traded it in for a Ford Escape hybrid when he began his presidential campaign, MSNBC reports.

This isn't the first time that the car has been up for sale on eBay. Several years ago, its owner Tim O’Boyle says he put it on the website but it was taken down after people jokingly ran the bidding up to $100 million. To make sure that doesn't happen, prospective buyers have to make a $2,000 deposit just to place a bid. So far the car has been up for more than a week and there have been no takers.

Obama has come a long way since his days driving the eco-friendly Ford Escape. Today he rides in the presidential limousine nicknamed The Beast, and it has certainly earned every bit of the moniker. According to Motor Authority, the car, manufactured by Cadillac, includes a number of impressive features. Among its highlights are eight-inch thick armor-plated doors, independent oxygen supply, night vision cameras and Kevlar-reinforced tires – just to name a few.

Lindsay Lohan Slapped With Another Driving Lawsuit

It's safe to say that Lindsay Lohan has had her fair share of troubles. Whether it be run-ins with the law or stints in rehab, the former child star has not had a smooth adulthood. That is especially true when she gets behind the wheel of a car, and now the "Mean Girls" star has found herself in hot water once again. Lohan is being sued by a woman who claims she was struck by the actress' car while she was crossing the street in  September 2010, The Associated Press reports.

The allegations stem from an incident in which Lohan struck the woman with her Maserati while she was in a crosswalk in West Hollywood. The victim wants Lohan to pay for the "injuries, pain, suffering and anguish" she faced and is also seeking compensation for time she missed from work.

This certainly is not Lohan's first trouble behind the wheel. Earlier this month, she was slapped with another lawsuit from a paparazzo who says that a vehicle carrying the actress struck him while he was trying to take pictures of her, the AP reports.

In fact, her driving troubles date back almost five years. She is still on probation as the result of a drunk driving arrest in 2007. Lohan was arrested several times that year due to suspicion of her being impaired while behind the wheel. One of those incidents resulted in a civil case settled outside of court, while another filed by three men in the car at the time may go to court later this year, according to the AP.

Though Lohan may be the most notorious bad driver, she is certainly not the only celebrity to have some vehicular issues. Perhaps most famously, Britney Spears has been accused of doing everything from driving with her infant son on her lap to excessive speeding.

Heat Star Dwyane Wade receives $230K McLaren

You might think that Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade has everything. The seven-time All-Star is on one of the best teams in the league and already has one NBA Championship to his credit. However, for his 30th birthday, Wade was given a pretty impressive gift – a $230,000 2012 McLaren MP4-12C, TMZ.com reports.

The present was given to Wade by a local dealership for which he happens to be the brand ambassador. The car is certainly a sight to behold. Much like its sister car, the iconic DeLorean DMC-12, the MP4-12C has iconic gull-wing doors, and it is definitely deserving of the hefty price tag. While the car may be the most captivating, perhaps most impressive is how it was presented to the 2006 NBA Finals MVP.

According to the website, the dealership wanted the ride to be waiting for Wade when he walked into the hotel pool area, and he wanted it to be waiting on a platform in the middle of the pool itself. Naturally, the car couldn't be driven in – it had to be airlifted by a crane.

The car was just one of the highlights of an impressive birthday bash for the NBA superstar. The party featured many famous attendees including Wade's two ballyhooed teammates – LeBron James and Chris Bosh. There were guests outside of the NBA world as well such as Usher and rappers T.I. and Common.

While you may not be behind the wheel of a $230,000 McLaren, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take care of your current ride like it's worth that much. New Jersey State Auto Auction's Total Car Care center provides the public with general upkeep and repair services so their vehicles can run smoothly.

Jay Leno Tests Out Powerful Venom GT

There are few celebrities who are bigger auto enthusiasts than Jay Leno. The venerable talk show host is known almost as much for his large collection of cars as he is for his iconic jawline. So it should come as no surprise that when Hennesey Performance wanted a big name to test drive its Venom GT, Leno was at the top of the list.

The drive has been in the works for some time. According to Autoweek.com, Hennesey first gave the high-performance ride to Leno a few months ago, but at that time it was not street legal. Leno told them to make some modifications so he could take it out on the open road, and they did.

The specifications tell the whole story. The powerful V-8 engine is located in the back and gives the car between 800 and 1,200 horsepower, depending on which setting the driver chooses. It can make it from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds, and reach the 200 mph mark in 15.3 seconds.

"There's plenty of room inside," Leno said in a YouTube video. "It's snug but it's certainly not tight. I mean i'm six-feet tall, I'm pretty wide, and I'm comfortable in it."

The Venom is just the latest in a long line of cars that Leno has added to his garage. According to his website, his collection spans 100 years and dates back to the 1906 Baker electric car.

While few people can compete with the garage that Leno has amassed over the years, going to New Jersey State Auto Auction can be a step in the right direction. The dealer offers a wide variety of makes and models at affordable prices.

Drive My Car: Former Beatle’s Aston Martin Sells For More Than $500K

Classic cars and classic rock recently came together when the ride of one of the world's most famous musicians went up for auction. Former Beatle George Harrisons's Aston Martin DB5 recently sold more more than $547,000 to a collector from Houston, Texas.

The car was purchased by Harrison in 1965 just as the Beatles were approaching the height of their fame. The 46-year-old vehicle caused a stir when it the auction was announced in London, and it ended up being sold for about $230,000 more than what most experts were estimating ahead of time.

"It was a fantastic sale with dealers and collectors from all over the world participating," said Chris Routledge, the managing director of COYS auction house. There is also no doubt that many people who in the past invested in stock and shares are now looking to classic cars as a good investment for the future."

Harrison's Aston Martin was not the only famous car to be up for auction recently. The iconic 1965 Mercedes-Benz convertible from the hit 2009 comedy movie "The Hangover" also went on sale. The classic silver ride that appears in the film, starring Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms, is listed on eBay.com at a starting price of $85,000 – though it will almost certainly be much higher by the time it is purchased.

While most people are not in the market for famous cars like Harrison's Aston Martin or "The Hangover" Benz, New Jersey State Auto Auction still offers plenty of excellent used cars to choose from. Additionally, every make and model is Carfax certified so you know you're getting a reliable automobile.
