Ryan Reynolds comes out in support of the Nissan Leaf

There’s been a considerable amount of buzz surrounding the Nissan Leaf, as the electric car has been lauded as a large step forward in green living. Now, the company has taken things one step further as A-lister Ryan Reynolds has joined with Nissan in support of the innovative car.

Reynolds, who stars in the upcoming action flick "The Green Lantern," believes that investing in alternative energy is an important step in the move to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle. The move is nothing new for Reynolds, who has championed numerous eco-friendly causes throughout his career.

"I believe it's possible to take great leaps forward without sacrificing a way of life. For me electric vehicles, like the Nissan Leaf, are not only representative of taking back the power, but also a significant statement about conscious ways of living," said Reynolds.

Though seeing the Nissan Leaf as a staple on U.S. highways may be a few years off, there are still plenty of hybrid cars eco-conscious drivers can choose from, including versions of the Ford Fusion and Ford Escape.

Exploring the vehicles of “Fast Five”

"Fast Five" raced to first place at the box office this past weekend, netting a whopping $84 million dollars. No doubt that action stars like Vin Diesel and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson contributed to the film's success, but just as important as the actors in these films are the cars they drive. So what should moviegoers keep an eye out for when they go see the film?

Vin Diesel's character Dom has favored a 1970 Dodge Charger in every film he's been in, and it's back for the fifth installment. In the movie, the car sports a 900-horsepower supercharged Hemi, but in real life the producers went with a 400-horsepower model for filming purposes.

The Charger isn't the only vintage model in the movie. You'll also be able to spot Paul Walker's character, Brian, behind the wheel of a 1972 Nissan Skyline, as well as glimpses of a 1966 Corvette Grand Sport and 1963 Ford Galaxy.

That's not to say the film is light on modern cars. Returning from the late nineties is the Toyota Supra, while the Porsche GT3 represents the beginning of the new millennium. Contemporary models featured in the film include the Subaru STi and Lexus LFA.

Drivers might not be able to afford some of these souped-up rides in real life, but they can certainly look for some of the classic models at New Jersey State Auto Auction, which offers a wide range of cars for sale at affordable prices.

Chrysler teams with Dr. Dre

Chrysler already teamed up with hip-hop star Eminem for their memorable Super Bowl commercial where they debuted the Chrysler 200, so which music industry icon is next on their list?

Turns out its Dr. Dre, Eminem's original mentor, who will be teaming up with the brand through his audio company, Beats. The new 2012 Chrysler 300S will feature a Beats by Dr. Dre audio system installed in the car.

Yet Chrysler didn't just outsource the production of an audio system to the company. Dre and record producer Jimmy Iovine worked side-by-side with engineers at the automaker to develop a ten-speaker system specifically for the vehicle. That means drivers will be getting exceptional acoustic quality that Chrysler says attempts to replicate the sound producers hear in the studio.

"Beats By Dr. Dre has always been about restoring the emotional music connection between an artist and the listener, and Chrysler vehicles beginning with the Chrysler 300S will let drivers hear music the way the artists intended, replicating the feel and the sound that artists and producers work so hard to achieve," said Iovine.

Drivers interested in a used Chrysler or any other vehicle may want to consider New Jersey State Auto Auction, which offers a wide range of cars for sale – some with killer sound systems of their own.

Bret Michaels, Bill Goldberg, auction used cars for charity

Rocker Bret Michaels and former pro wrestler Bill Goldberg have gone head-to-head before on shows like "Celebrity Apprentice." But at a recent Arizona car auction, the two celebrities had pride on the line as they each auctioned off two classic used cars.

The money from the auction went to the American Diabetes Association and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, so each wanted to see their cars go as high as possible.

Goldberg's customized 1968 Dodge Dart, complete with a 713 horsepower Hemi V8 engine, ended up selling for a whopping $92,500. Yet Michaels was able to best Goldberg, as his 1969 Chevrolet Camaro SS, couple with a signed guitar and lifetime backstage pass wound up fetching $200,000.

Bruce Steinberg, the owner of the collision center that rebuilt the car, told the Mason City Globe Gazette that he didn't believe the car would sell for that much.

"Surprised isn't even the word, more like shocked and overwhelmed," he told the news source. "We had an idea in our head how much it would go for, but not that."

Later, the two friends took to the stage in order to pump the crowd up for the big-ticket item, a brand-new 2012 Ford Mustang Boss Lacuna Seca, which eventually sold for $450,000.

Controversial Kennedy ambulance sells for $132,000

Occasionally, drivers who purchase used vehicles may see the car increase in value if they keep it in mint condition and that particular model ends up becoming a classic. Yet this is usually not the most efficient way to go about purchasing a vehicle, and more often than not a car will decrease in value over time.

However, one way that a car's price will shoot up dramatically is if it's involved with a celebrity, a famous event, or better yet, both. That was the case for a 1963 Pontiac Bonneville ambulance that was recently sold at auction.

These oddly-shaped machines normally fetch around $10,000, but this model in particular was rumored to have carried John F. Kennedy's body shortly after his assassination. According to the story, the ambulance met the Kennedys at Andrews Air Force Base and carried the body to the hospital for an autopsy and later, the U.S. Capitol.

In the end, a collector shelled out $132,000 for the vehicle, although that was much less than the once-rumored $1 million price tag. That may be because the car blog Jalopnik published a story days before the auction, which claimed that the actual ambulance had been destroyed in 1986.

The auction house independently investigated, but couldn't verify either story 100 percent. Thus, the sale went ahead, although the controversy likely contributed to the much lower bid.

Used car dealership draws fire for Vick ads

Many new and used car dealerships use local celebrities as a way of drawing attention to their business, but one New Jersey used Nissan dealership took a bit of a risk by inviting a controversial superstar into their showroom.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick has electrified the NFL with his top-tier play this season, but more than a few have yet to forgive him for his dogfighting conviction, which caused the superstar to spend some time in jail. Regardless, WPVI 6 in Philadelphia reports that Woodbury Nissan, just across state lines in New Jersey, was willing to give Vick a second chance in a promotional campaign.

"We actually said if he's not humble, if he doesn't show remorse and if he thinks he didn't do anything wrong, we weren't going to go ahead with it," executive manager Tom McMenamin told the news source.

The dealership has aired a TV spot where Vick appears in the showroom, working with the sales team to highlight some of the cars for sale. According to McMenamin, most of the local response has been positive, with the manager claiming a 90 percent approval rating for the TV spot.

Still, not everybody was pleased with the commercial. More than 1,000 people have joined a Facebook group entitled "Boycott Woodbury Nissan – Vick is No Role Model," pledging not to purchase vehicles from the company as long as the quarterback is their spokesperson.

James Bond car up for sale

Every used car is unique, but some are a little more special than others.

Case in point: The Aston Martin DB5 used in the 1965 James Bond film "Thunderball." The classic DB5 would likely fetch a high price at a used auto auction, but this car comes with a few classic Bond gadgets that make it the ultimate collector's item.

Two machine guns on the front actually fire blanks, sure to intimidate anyone on the road. Some of the car's other features include a revolving license plate, bullet shield, nail spreader, tire shredders and radar navigation that puts modern GPS to shame. There's even an ejector seat (that doesn't work).

American radio station magnate Jerry Lee has owned the car since 1969, when he bought it straight from the Aston Martin factory for $12,000. Now, it's expected to fetch $5-$7 million dollars at auction.

A 1998 Jaguar XKR modified for "Die Another Day" is expected to go for substantially less.

Drivers don't have to be millionaires to afford a luxury used vehicle. In fact, buying used can be a great way for buyers to get a good deal on a luxury brand like BMW or Mercedes.

Tom Brady gets upgraded Audi after crash

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady recently walked away from his crash in a 2010 Audi S8, but was spotted in the new 2011 Audi A8 at a charity event.

At a recent postgame press conference, a reporter asked Brady if he had gotten a new car since the accident.

"I did, I did," Brady joked. "I just wanted to get the 2011, so I had to crash the 2010."

The Boston Herald spotted Brady at a charity skeet-shooting event where he rolled up in the new A8. The original S8 was loaned to Brady by Audi because of his work with Best Buddies International, which is sponsored by the automaker. Car blog Quattroholic contacted Audi to see if the new A8 was also a gift from the automaker, which a senior official confirmed as part of their "VIP Fleet."

Fortunately, drivers don't have to wreck their existing vehicle in order to get into an Audi. Most used car dealerships will accept trade-ins, so drivers looking to upgrade can knock some dollars off a pre-owned Audi's already lowered purchase price and drive off the lot in a sleek luxury car.

“Jersey Shore” star buys used car

Not all celebrities opt for the exclusive new models – as evidenced by a reality TV star’s recent purchase of a used car.

According to TMZ, Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino of MTV’s “Jersey Shore” fame, opted to buy used when he was in the market for a ride. Unlike most people, who opt for a used Toyota or Honda, The Situation went slightly classier, purchasing a used 2008 Bentley for about $100,000.

The news source reports that The Situation and his brother, Marc Sorrentino, each opted for nearly identical used cars. The rides were paid for through their new company, MPS Entertainment.

The purchase was also made possible through Sorrentino’s rising star in Hollywood. In addition to his reported $60,000 per episode salary for the reality show, the star has signed a number of promotional deals, a book contract and has plans for a workout DVD. When that’s included with his upcoming appearance on “Dancing With the Stars,” the self-proclaimed guido stands to make over $5 million this year.

Some of that money will go toward upgrading his new used car, as the news source reveals the both brothers are opting to add custom rims and sound systems to the vehicles.

Andy Warhol’s used BMW on display in museum

The great thing about buying used BMWs is that there is a chance that the car will become a true classic and appreciate with time as it becomes a collector’s item. That’s even more true if the owner was especially famous. It’s particularly amazing if the owner was Andy Warhol and he added his own iconoclastic touch to the vehicle.

Andy Warhol’s used BMW is now considered a work of art, and is on display at the Palace of Arts in Budapest for a limited time.

According to car blog Jalopnik, the legendary BMW M1 of Warhol’s has quite a history. Andy Warhol painted the car in 23 minutes, and the random splotches of vibrant colors haven’t completely worn off in the three decades since its inception. BMW raced the vehicle at the 1979 24 hours of Le Mans, where it came in sixth overall.

Now, the car is considered to be art. In many ways, it is, according to the news source. Whatever drivers think of the man who painted it, any M1 is considered to be a work of art by some collectors.

Buying a used BMW carries with it a significant legacy. And if a consumer happens to stumble upon an old M1, they might just want to snap it up on the spot, as the car is legendary with or without an artist’s touch.
