Toyota Named The Most Valuable Auto Brand

Every year, Millward Brown releases the BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands. While tech companies usually dominate, some automakers made waves in the 2013 rankings, including perennial contenders Toyota and BMW

Ranked as the 23rd most valuable brand in the world, Toyota was the highest car manufacturer on the list. It was just one spot ahead of BMW.

The Japanese automaker previously held the No. 1 spot from 2006 to 2009, and again in 2011. BMW was ranked at the top in 2010 and 2012. Toyota surged ahead in 2013 thanks to a 12 percent increase in value – largely due to high demand in major markets like China and the U.S. It also has begun expanding its lineup, introducing things like hybrids to appeal to a wider range of drivers.

"Toyota is carving out a very big position in hybrids across its range, which is tapping into the consumer need for value by saving fuel cost," Millward Brown global brand director Peter Walshe told Automotive News. "Its hybrids are reinforcing the experience of the brand, and in so doing, Toyota continues to magnify what is special and different about it."

BMW, on the other hand, saw its value drop 2 percent – although that still kept it ahead of some of its competitors. Other top auto brands included Mercedes-Benz, Honda and Nissan.

While these companies offer drivers many options when it comes to buying cars, there are many other models that may be just right for your situation. To get a look at some of them, head to NJ State Auto Auction. The lot is filled with CARFAX-certified cars, trucks and vans from a variety of manufacturers, and any of the used cars could be a great choice for your next ride.

Toyota, Lexus the Most Dependable Brands

Appearance, performance and fuel-economy are all important things to consider when purchasing a car, but perhaps the greatest criteria of all is how reliable it is. After all, if your ride doesn't last very long, it doesn't matter how sleek it look or how many miles you get per tank of gas. A recent study from J.D. Power and Associates revealed what consumers feel are the most dependable cars, and Toyota dominated.

The venerable Japanese automaker was the highest-rated non-premium nameplate, and its sister brand Lexus took the top honors in the luxury sector. Additionally, another Toyota offshoot – Scion – came in fifth place after a 17-spot jump compared to last year.

"We are extremely pleased that not only did we win awards in eight of the 14 model segments, but that in two segments we finished one-two and made the podium in 12 segments overall", said Jim Lentz, President and Chief Operating Officer Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

While Toyota and Lexus were the top performers, there were some American-made brands that had high marks as well. In particular, the Ford Explorer was honored for its dependability, as were two General Motors products, the Buick Lucerne and Chevrolet Equinox.

Of course, part of a vehicle's dependability is how well you take care of it. J.D. Power says that if you own any of the cars on the list and maintain it reasonably well over its lifespan, chances are you can trade it in for a high value when the time comes.

To ensure that your car lives up to its dependability rating, you should visit New Jersey State Auto Auction's Total Car Care center. Located in Jersey City and open to the public, the center provides everything from repairs to general upkeep.

Toyota Tops Brand Perception Survey Once Again

Consumer Reports released the results of its annual Car-Brand Perception Survey, and while Toyota topped the list once again, there were some surprising changes. The gap between the top four brands is shrinking and smaller companies seem to be reaping the benefits of changes in perception of larger manufacturers.

Toyota led the way in terms of brand perception but it did suffer a bit. While the company may have dropped in favorability in a few key categories, one place it did not suffer was quality. The publication found that Toyota's quality rating stayed at 19 percent – its same level as in 2011 – while competitors such as Honda dropped from 25 to 19 percent, and Ford dipped to 19 percent from 23 percent.

Another area where Toyota performed well was in its perceived friendliness to the environment. Though it dropped eight points from  2011 to 38 percent in 2012, it still placed well above other brands thanks in large part to the popularity of the hybrid Prius.

The dip in brand perception, which affected other manufacturers including Honda, Ford and Chevrolet, seems to be a result of an overall shift in attitude in the auto industry.

"Dramatic events in the automotive industry seem to be affecting how consumers view auto brands," the report states. "Erratic gasoline prices and a struggling economy have pushed consumers to prize low operating costs and good reliability."

Whether you view Toyota favorably or are more partial to Honda, New Jersey State Auto Auction has the perfect model. With a wide variety of used cars at affordable prices there, New Jersey Auto certainly has something for everyone.

Chevrolet Volt Cleared by NHTSA

When the news of several post crash test engine fires in Chevrolet Volts came to light late last year, there was much speculation over whether it signaled a fundamental flaw in the car's design. However, an exhaustive investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) found that Chevrolet is not to blame for the fires, USA Today reports.

The report comes nearly two months after the NHTSA opened the investigation in November and also found that General Motors' response to the issue will prevent it from happening again. Among the changes GM made was an extra steel casing around the battery to ensure that coolant doesn't leak in the event of the crash. Leaking coolant was deemed responsible for the fires.

"The agency's investigation has concluded that no discernible defect trend exists and that the vehicle modifications recently developed by General Motors reduce the potential for battery intrusion resulting from side impacts," a statement from NHTSA read.

The study also determined that electric cars are at no greater risk for engine fires than gasoline-powered vehicles. The announcement is certainly good news for the Volt, which has suffered somewhat of a damaged image as a result of the fires. It had already suffered a bit in terms of sales, with Chevrolet only delivering 7,671 vehicles in 2011 – falling short of the goal of 10,000 units, Bloomberg reports.

The Volt may be cleared, but regardless of what car you have, it could be at risk for many mechanical errors without proper maintenance. New Jersey State Auto Auction's Total Car Care center provides drivers with everything from basic upkeep to repairs to make sure their vehicle is kept running smoothly.

Different Poll, Different Result: Toyota Tops in Brand Loyalty

A recent J.D. Power study may have found that Hyundai leads the way when it comes to brand loyalty, but by Kelley Blue Book's (KBB) estimates, that's not the case. The company found that Toyota customers were more loyal during the fourth quarter of 2011 than those of any other auto manufacturer.

The results are somewhat of a return to form for Toyota, as it marks the first time since the third quarter of 2003 that the company has found the top spot on KBB's list. Specifically, researchers found that Toyota's brand shopping loyalty was up to 50.6 percent, marking a 2.7 percent jump since the third quarter.

It was that jump toward the end of the year that caused the discrepancy between the two lists. While Hyundai dominated the first three quarters of the year, Toyota came on strong toward the end after shrugging off the effects of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. Not only that, but its redesign of the Camry seems to have struck a chord with consumers.

"Traditional leaders like Toyota are leaving the problems in the past and looking toward bright futures, while new players such as Hyundai, Kia and Audi remain forces to be reckoned with in the American automotive industry," said Akshay Anand, market intelligence web analyst for kbb.com.

Whether you're looking to maintain your brand loyalty to Toyota, Hyundai or any other manufacturer, New Jersey State Auto Auction is the place to go. The dealer provides a wide variety of makes and models at affordable prices. Additionally, every car is Carfax certified so you know you're getting a good deal.

Hyundai Tops in Customer Loyalty

Hyundai is having quite a run. Just weeks after winning the coveted North American Car of the Year award for the popular Elantra, a J.D. Power and Associates report found that the manufacturer is at the top of the list when it comes to customer loyalty. Hyundai has a 64 percent retention rate beating out stalwarts of the industry including Honda, Ford and Jeep.

The findings are especially impressive given the fact that Hyundai has been criticized over the last decade for manufacturing unreliable cars. However, officials have made a concerted effort to appeal to customers through initiatives like their Assurance Program, which guarantees buy backs for Hyundai vehicles. Not only that, but the reputation of the brand is changing as well.

"Hyundai's increased retention rate is shaped by its expanding model lineup, as well as the fact that perceptions of the brand’s quality and appeal have continued to improve during the past decade," said Raffi Festekjian, the director of automotive research at J.D. Power and Associates.

The 64 percent retention rate marks a 4 percent jump compared to 2010 and places Hyundai well above the industry average of 49 percent. Ford and Honda came in second place with 60 percent, and BMW and Kia rounded out the top five with 59 percent each.

The study also found that women and young adults are more likely to buy a different brand with their next purchase. Whether you are looking to get behind the wheel of the same make and model or if you're heading in a completely different direction, New Jersey State Auto Auction is the place to go. With a wide selection of used cars at affordable prices, there is something for everybody.

It’s Electric: Plug-in Ford Fusion Debuted at Detroit Auto Show

The Ford Fusion has been a popular midsize sedan since it first hit the market in 2005, and with the recent announcement of its upcoming models that's not likely to change anytime soon. Ford revealed that the next Fusion will come in a plug-in, hybrid or turbo option, USA Today reports.

The unveiling came at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, which kicked off earlier this week and happened as Ford continues to make a big push toward fuel efficiency, and many analysts are surprised that the company is going to offer a plug-in model because so few major manufacturers have done so.

"We brought our global teams together around a blank slate with the charge to develop a midsize car with ground-breaking design and jaw-dropping fuel economy," Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of global product development, said in the announcement, the publication reports.

Although the new versions are part of the 2013 model, that does not mean that drivers can't get excellent fuel efficiency out of their used Ford Fusion as well. For instance, the 2010 Fusion got a respectable 34 mpg on the highway.

Of course, there are a number of things you can do while out on the road to help improve your gas mileage even more. For instance, driving at or around the speed limit has shown to have a positive impact, as has opting for cruise control on the highway.

Whether you're looking for a Fusion or another similar midsize sedan, New Jersey State Auto is the place to go. Its diverse collection of used cars at affordable prices makes finding the right vehicle easier than ever.

Shocking News: GM to Enhance Chevy Volt Safety

The Chevrolet Volt hit a bit of a snag in its quest to become a popular electric vehicle a few months ago when several of the cars' batteries caught fire after a crash test. Though General Motors is confident the issue is an aberration, the Volt is going to get some safety enhancements to ensure it never happens again.

The changes come after it was revealed that three Volts caught fire three to seven days after a government crash test mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last year. After lengthy testing, GM officials determined that the fires started because the crash caused a crack in the battery, which resulted in the leakage of some coolant. The so-called enhancements will be there to make sure there is no chance of coolant leaking.

The enhancements being made to the Volt include a strengthening of an existing structure in the vehicle to protect the battery, as well as the addition of a sensor in the reservoir to monitor the levels of coolant in the battery. Despite the updates, officials will not call it a recall.

"These enhancements and modifications will address the concerns raised by the severe crash tests," GM senior vice president of Global Product Development Mary Barra said. "There are no changes to the Volt battery pack or cell chemistry as a result of these actions. We have tested the Volt’s battery system for more than 285,000 hours, or 25 years, of operation."

While very few people today drive Volts, its issues underscore the importance of keeping a car properly maintained, whether it be through having proper fluid levels or regular upkeep. New Jersey State Auto Auction's Total Car Car Center provides drivers the chance to make sure their vehicle is running smoothly – all at an affordable price.

Toyota Camry earns praise from Consumer Reports

It is already one of the most popular cars in the United States, but the Toyota Camry recently got a sterling review from Consumer Reports. The publication named the 2012 hybrid version of the car the best family sedan, according to USA Today.

The achievement may surprise some people since the latest version of the Camry was met with some criticism due to its lackluster appearance. However, the car has a number of other features that eventually won over the reviewers. In particular, it's fuel economy, interior and responsive handling all set it above other models. Even the standard, non-hybrid model impressed the magazine.

"In fact, the four-cylinder model’s 27 mpg overall ties with the Hyundai Sonata for the best fuel economy among conventional gasoline-powered family sedans," Consumer Reports said, according to Bloomberg.

The endorsement should not come as a surprise given the Carmy's history. The classic sedan has been the best selling car in the United States 13 out of the last 14 years and it is often touted among the safest cars on the road. This year, for instance, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named it as one of the safest cars for 2012 along with its Japanese counterpart, the Honda Accord.

While Consumer Reports targeted the 2012 Camry, given its sales record if you get behind the wheel of a used model you will not be disappointed either. Whether you're looking for a used Camry or other similar sedan, New Jersey State Auto Auction has you covered. In addition to offering a wide variety of makes and models at affordable prices, all the vehicles are Carfax certified.

Toyota Prius to See Price Hike in 2012

Toyota is planning some upgrades to its Prius and RAV4's for the next year, but consumers should be ready to pony up a little more money if they want to go new. According to USA Today, the newly-design Prius could cost consumers about $1,000 more compared to last year, which could have them rushing to New Jersey State Auto Auction to get a better deal on a used vehicle.

The popular, fuel-efficient car will welcome a few changes for 2012. First and foremost, it will feature a new name, the Prius Liftback, to differentiate it between the Prius v, a bigger version that will resemble a station wagon. The price hikes will be a little different depending on which car you're looking to buy. For instance, the so-called Prius Three will cost about $25,565, up about 4.3 percent from last year. The new Prius Liftback is expected to go on sale in January.

Although it is not going to see quite as steep a price hike, Toyota's RAV4 will also cost consumers a little bit more if they want to go new in 2012. The car goes on sale tomorrow and will see about a 0.4 percent increase in price.

If you're looking to get behind the wheel of a different car in the near future but don't want to spend too much money, used cars may be the better option. This is especially true toward the end of the year, as many analysts are urging consumers to take advantage of decreasing used car prices.

New Jersey State Auto Auction is an excellent choice for consumers looking for reliable used cars. The dealer offers a wide variety of makes and models at affordable prices.
